I found it pretty economical compared to the prices I would have paid at the health food store for soymilk at that time as grocery stores did not carry soymilk.Dorihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16001818777096357255noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24141461.post-50530214939057300022009-07-19T15:35:24.397-07:002009-07-19T15:35:24.397-07:00Bryanna,

This is before, years ago. 10 years ago we stayed there and the food was great. 2 months ago, they started serving meat. When they serve tofu, it was literally tofu out of the box, with no seasonings. I was so surprised of the blandness. I agree with you the chef probably never tasted it.

This really gives tofu a bad name.

Debbiespiceislandveganhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13993360181907389563noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24141461.post-84501034352631516002009-07-19T08:32:21.394-07:002009-07-19T08:32:21.394-07:00I had this same experience recently in a restauran...I had this same experience recently in a restaurant that specializes in Asian cuisine. The waiter even recommended the tofu appetizer--cubes of fried tofu with a dipping sauce. The sauce was just not tasty enough to compensate for the flavorless tofu. It's a shame that most non-vegetarians' only exposure to tofu is such tasteless, overpriced stuff. I can make low-fat, baked tofu at home that tastes a hundred times better.

I'm going to keep your tofu milk recipe in mind for emergencies. Like you, I always have silken tofu in my pantry. Thanks for the great idea!Susan Voisinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16706612777547235769noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24141461.post-9519799882097823752009-07-16T12:49:18.401-07:002009-07-16T12:49:18.401-07:00Bryanna, I'm totally with you on the restauran...Bryanna, I'm totally with you on the restaurant experience. I have had so many vegan dishes, off the menu, and thought "no one in the kitchen has ever tasted this dish." It's just like you said - they just assume that because a person would order that dish, that person obviously no longer enjoys using their taste buds. Tofu seems to be the prime offender, and I think those people just haven't tasted good tofu. Such a shame, and it's SUPER irritating that you had to pay $18... I've been there!Ameyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00291071425858947632noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24141461.post-74806362259826957482009-07-16T12:11:10.792-07:002009-07-16T12:11:10.792-07:00I don't even like going to new restaurants unl...I don't even like going to new restaurants unless I haven't gotten a recommendation from a friend. I think sometimes in omni restaurants, they think it's the frying that makes the tofu taste good when it's actually the marinating, seasoning, sauce, etc. (Not that fried tofu isn't tasty, but frying plain tofu and serving it like that isn't going to do much.)

It looks like a beautiful city though.Monahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09371093532495776141noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24141461.post-40410058731048367252009-07-15T18:25:50.253-07:002009-07-15T18:25:50.253-07:00This is such a great idea!
